Hoping to inspire people to take time out and travel with their family

And so the adventure begins….

And so the adventure begins…. We’ve decided to take some time out from our hectic life and go on a family backpacking adventure. Sometimes I think we’re completely mad but most of the time I just can’t wait.

This has been part of our grand plan for a long time. We’re always asking ourselves what’s life about and why does it have to be like this? So we’re taking the plunge to see if we can take a break, ground ourselves, spend time together as a family and then get back to normality. So it’s not a dramatic life change, it’s just a break, a “Time Out” from our day to day life (but not the “sit on the naughty step” type of time out :-).

We backpacked over 10 years ago and absolutely loved it and always thought it would be an amazing experience with kids. Amazing for our girls and for us. We think and hope that travelling with kids will open doors to a really different back packing adventure.

So what’s the plan? Well it’s to take 7 months off and travel from Dublin, Ireland (where we live) to Sri Lanka, South East Asia, a short stop off with friends in Australia, on to South America and home.

We’ve decided to pick less countries to see and spend more time in each one rather than try to pack too much in. So the plan is roughly a month in each country, 7 months, 7 countries. According to all families who’ve done this before, slow travel is the way to go with kids.

On that note I’ll sign off. Will post soon with details on how to organise this kind of adventure. Maybe we’ll encourage more of you to consider the same!
